About SpeedFast
SpeedFast is a free, browser-based internet speed test built around one goal: give you a number you can actually trust, and explain honestly how we got it.
Why we built it
Most people run a speed test when something feels wrong — a slow video call, a stalled download, a game with lag — and need a fast, clear answer about whether the problem is their connection. That only works if the test itself is measuring the right thing correctly: real sustained throughput across multiple connections, latency both idle and under load, and a methodology that doesn't quietly inflate the number to look impressive. SpeedFast was built to get those specifics right, and to document them openly rather than treat the measurement as a black box.
How we think about accuracy
A speed test is only as useful as it is honest. We'd rather show you a real 180 Mbps than a flattering 250 Mbps that doesn't hold up in practice. The full detail of how we measure download, upload, ping, and jitter — including the specific engineering decisions behind it — is on our How It Works page, because a methodology worth trusting is one worth explaining.
Built on Cloudflare's global network
SpeedFast runs on Cloudflare Workers and Pages, which puts our measurement servers in hundreds of cities worldwide rather than a handful of central locations — so most tests measure against a genuinely nearby edge server instead of one far away.
Independent, not affiliated
SpeedFast is an independent project. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to Ookla, Speedtest.net, Netflix, or Fast.com — any resemblance in what a speed test tool does is simply because the underlying problem (measuring a connection accurately) has a similar shape everywhere.
