What we collect, and why

To run a test and show you a meaningful result, SpeedFast needs to know your approximate location and internet provider. We derive both from your IP address at the moment you load the page or run a test — we don't ask you for this information directly, and we don't need an account to do it.

When you complete a test, we record the measured download speed, upload speed, ping, and jitter, along with your approximate ISP and location, so the result can be displayed to you and — only if you choose to keep it — shared via a link.

Your IP address, specifically

Your IP address is used at request time to determine your approximate ISP and location. Before any result is stored so it can be shared, the last part of that address is zeroed out (the final segment of an IPv4 address, or the equivalent segment of an IPv6 address) — the stored and shared version is never your complete, exact IP address.

Cookies and local storage

We use a small number of purposes for cookies and browser storage, and none of them are for advertising tracking on our part:

• A cookie remembers your selected language so you don't have to choose it again on your next visit.
• Your light/dark theme preference is saved in your browser's local storage, not sent to our servers.
• Your personal test history (past results shown on the Results page) is stored entirely in your own browser's local storage. It is never uploaded to us unless you explicitly generate a shareable link for a specific result.

Data retention

We'll be straightforward about this rather than promise a specific deletion schedule we haven't built yet: a test result you choose to keep as a shareable link persists on our servers until we implement and document an automatic expiration policy, which is planned but not active today. Your local, private test history is entirely under your control — you can delete individual entries or clear it completely at any time from the Results page, since it lives only in your own browser.

Advertising

SpeedFast may display advertising served by third-party networks, such as Google AdSense, to help cover the cost of running a global testing infrastructure. If and when ads are shown, the network serving them may use cookies to select ads and measure their performance, under that network's own privacy policy — for Google, see Google's own explanation of how it uses data from sites that use its services. Ads are never shown on the active test page itself, so they can't interfere with or skew your measurement.

Who we share data with

SpeedFast runs on Cloudflare's infrastructure (Workers, Pages, and D1 database), which processes requests to operate the service itself. We do not sell your data, and we do not share individual test results or IP-derived information with third parties for marketing purposes.

Your choices

You can use SpeedFast without creating an account. You can clear your local test history at any time from the Results page. If you'd like a shareable result removed from our servers, contact us and we'll handle it directly.
